Constipation is a health problem which is quite common among babies. Due to the fact that the infant must change from liquids to solid foods, this sets the stage where it is easy for them to become constipated depending on what their parents feed them, and how often.

If a baby constipation is the case, the treatment that their parents should give them is different from how adults stop their constipation. Certain laxatives and oils should never be given to babies under any circumstances. Babies who are breastfed will have less incidents of constipation than babies who are not breastfed, since breast milk is easier for the baby to process through their systems.

Babies who consume milk are much more likely to become constipated, and this is why many mothers and parents favor breastfeeding their babies over giving them milk through the bottle. As the baby gets older, and begins to make the change from liquids to solid foods, the chances of them becoming constipated is greatly increased.

A small level of baby constipation is normal, since the intestinal system of the child must become used to processing the solid wastes. Once the baby becomes used to digesting solid foods, any constipation it experiences after this point will most often be a result of dehydration.

Dehydration is one of the most common causes of baby constipation, both in babies and adults. Constipation within babies can be a painful experience, as they can bleed and have large amounts of pain. To avoid this pain, the baby will attempt to hold back on having bowel movements, and the foods they consume will stay in their system for a longer period of time.

When this happens, the body will take liquids from the foods, but this will only make the stools harder. Giving the baby a bath and rubbing the surface of the anus with petroleum jelly will help make it easier for them to have a bowel movement.

Watch your Diet. Constipation is often caused by people's diets. This is not to say you must eat healthy all the time, but instead to make sure you are getting plenty of water into your body as well as eating fruit and green vegetables to help clean out your insides.

Don't Forget about the Fiber. The human body needs the fiber that comes from grain products to help digest and allow your body to have natural bowel movements. Often time's constipation is caused by a lack of fiber in the body. Fiber pills or powder can be taken as a supplement if needed.

If you are having trouble going number 2, then you can try some basic stretching to loosen up the bowels. First you can twist side to side, this triggers the energy points in your intestines and will get things moving. Next you can squat down for a few minutes to stretch out your colon and help get things moving. Sounds funny, but it works.
